Since 2022, I have served as a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow and Senior Advisor to the Office of Research Coordination in the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology.
I co-lead the Transportation Transformation Action Plan project in collaboration with the U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. Our project sponsors include the Office of the Assistant Deputy Secretary of Research and the Office of Research Coordination. The action plan will support the implementation of a national vision for an Intermodal System-of-Systems (IMSS) as described in the 2022-2026 U.S. DOT Research, Development, and Technology Strategic Plan. The concept of the IMSS is based on the safe and equitable mobility of people and goods through a data driven digital infrastructure that connects modal forms of transportation from sea to air to land to space. Focusing on both near and far term transportation technology innovations, this project will evolve as stakeholder engagement informs the U.S. DOT strategic goals of safety, economic strength, equity, climate, and transformation along with the IMSS strategic goals of system integration, data driven insight, and the development of emerging technologies.

The action plan core tasks include:
- Technical Research Management: I advise U.S. DOT leadership on the alignment of key internal and external research, development, and technology initiatives that support IMSS goals.
- Technology Reference Architecture Framework Development: I advise U.S. DOT leadership on the implementation of the Advanced Technology Roadmap Architecture (ATRA) methodology to strategize resource allocation for short- and long-term research, development, and technology goals.
- Stakeholder Outreach Engagement: I co-lead outreach subject matter expert meetings and present at leadership convenings to both introduce the initiative and understand the concepts, methods, and tools employed to design reference architectures for an intermodal system-of-systems.
