Video, performance art, electronic music, & and a collective of friends from martial arts, contact improvisational dance, poetry, and visual arts who were open and willing to play! Produced at the Banff Centre of the Arts as part of my M.A. in Media Arts Thesis from the International Center of Photography & New York University Program.

"the silence that allows..." is a visual, musical, and sound poem. It is a mix of journal writings, performances and images for many years in the 1980's and early 1990's. A grounding theme throughout these materials was a quest for understanding the dichotomies of race and gender which have inevitable influence over desire. This work was made possible by the participation and collaboration of a network of friends, artists, martial artists, and dancers. The final video was composed and edited during a first visit to the Banff Centre in Canada in 1990 - whereupon tools for exploring video synthesis and electronic music were throughly explored and applied.
