The video poem SLEEP NOW VARIATIONS was part of the American Art Song Project -- interpretations of songs, written by contemporary classical composers juxtaposed to a burgeoning awareness of what we now call intersectionality. This video poem is based on Samuel Barber's song "Sleep Now" set to an original poem by James Joyce. The vocal and kalimba arrangement of the song is written and performed by Pamela Jennings. Text that appears in quotes is from Jeanette Winterson's novel "Sexing The Cherry," all other text by Pamela Jennings.
