CD ROM Excepts: NOTE: This work was originally designed for a Macintosh Quadra 950 and not the fast processors of current computers. Some screens may animate very quickly. Mixing the metaphor of the game board and the book, "Solitaire: dream journals" whisks the user through a haunting journey aided by "The Book of Melancholy", "The Book of Flight", and "The Book of Balance" in the quest for desire of peace with oneself and connection with another. "Solitaire:dream journals" interface uses a three dimensional board game of Solitaire as the engine to move through these journeys. The three dimensions of this Solitaire game correspond to the three thematic areas of Melancholy, Flight, and Balance. A move made on either side of this tetrahedron (three sided pyramid) will randomly ( in a very controlled manner) open up a chapter of the book played. Sound plays a crucial element in this project. Creating nuances of layers of tone, I've included my voice, sampled sounds, and algorithmically controlled serial interludes. This is a personal piece for anyone to unravel, enjoy and relate to as long as their mind is open. "Solitaire:dream journals" was supported by two grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and Fellowship at the MacDowell Artist's Colony. |
